Sailing at night

You may have wondered how we manage to sail at night, as obviously we can’t just stop on the way.

The most important thing is to check whether there are any container ships, trawlers or other boats crossing our path. To avoid a collision, we take it in turns to keep a lookout. This is called a “watch”.

During the night watches, we play games to keep us awake:

  • – Uno
  • – the Tucano game
  • – Puzzles
  • – Games of chess
  • – Mastermind

And sometimes we also look at the luminescent jellyfish at the back of the boat. But mostly we watch the stars and the night sky.

Don’t think we’re busy all the time, the truth is we’re often bored. Sometimes we’re really tired, but we have to stay awake.

Oops, I almost forgot: Oliver and I have to do the stupid, miserable washing-up.

The longest sail lasted 5 nights in a row: from Dakhla/Morocco to Sal/Cape Verde.

Bye bye, hear you soon, Alexander
